ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Volunteers and Prime Minister Mike Eman continue working together to give Bernhardstraat in San Nicolas a fresh new appearance through an ongoing neighborhood revitalization project.

The house-painting initiative aims to strengthen community pride, improve neighborhood appearance, and create a more welcoming environment for both residents and visitors. This weekend, volunteers joined Prime Minister Eman in repainting another home in Bernhardstraat as part of the project’s latest phase.

The team worked on the home of Glenda Croes-Cheong and Ming Cheong at Bernhardstraat 141, giving the property a renewed appearance through the efforts of community volunteers and supporting businesses. The initiative forms part of a broader effort to revitalize Bernhardstraat and enhance the quality of life in San Nicolas.

Purcy Wirht of Ba-We Construction & Cleaning participated with his team, explaining that his motivation comes from a desire to contribute to a cleaner and more beautiful Aruba. He encouraged other small businesses and residents to become involved, emphasizing that community service is about more than money and creates a sense of satisfaction and pride.

Glenda Thomasia of the Ministry of General Affairs expressed appreciation for the volunteers, businesses, and donors who contributed paint, supplies, and time to the project. She noted that Bernhardstraat plays an important role in San Nicolas and Aruba’s tourism experience, making neighborhood improvements valuable for both residents and visitors.

Thomasia added that many families have wanted to repaint their homes for years but have faced financial challenges due to the high cost of maintenance and materials. She stressed that the project not only improves homes but also strengthens residents’ pride in their communities.

Prime Minister Mike Eman highlighted the strong spirit of volunteerism surrounding the initiative and encouraged businesses, organizations, and foundations to adopt homes and support families in need of assistance.

The project began with the renovation of the Vorst family home and will continue over the coming weeks. Additional homes along Bernhardstraat are already scheduled for improvement as organizers work toward creating a more colorful, vibrant, and welcoming neighborhood.

Officials stated that the positive response to the initiative demonstrates how cooperation between government, businesses, and residents can strengthen community pride, improve neighborhoods, and enhance the quality of life throughout Aruba.
