ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Alzheimer Foundation Aruba (F.A.A.), through its project “No Excuse For Elder Abuse,” invites seniors, caregivers, home assistants, social associations, financial and legal institutions, law enforcement, union members, pensioner organizations, students, educators, and local support groups to attend their annual seminar.
The 2026 seminar carries the theme: “Building a Solid Network of Support and Safety for the Elderly” and will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 7:00–9:30 p.m. at MFA Savaneta (north of the gas station).
Key speakers include:
- Dr. Jayburrt Dijkhoff, Aruban Defender and health law researcher, President of the foundation process “Pashentnan Di Aruba” (P.D.A.), discussing the voice and autonomy of the elderly in decisions regarding their care.
- Dr. Nurianne Arias, PhD, lecturer in Bachelor of Organization, Governance, and Management (OGM) at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, University of Aruba, addressing diabetes care and cognitive considerations in elderly abuse prevention.
- Ir. Leo Roberto Croes, volunteer, on aging and safety.
- Drs. Melva Croes-Yánez, neuropsychologist and President of F.A.A., on preventing elder abuse as a manageable challenge.
The seminar will provide practical tools and knowledge to help prevent abuse and neglect of the elderly in Aruba, emphasizing protection, autonomy, and community support.
