ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, and Primary Sector Geoffrey Wever has announced that the government will officially launch Programa Piskechi on Saturday, June 20. The initiative is designed to teach traditional hand-fishing methods to the island’s youth as a means of preserving local culture.

Supporting the fishing community remains a priority for the AVP-Futuro Cabinet, which recently completed renovations to the Savaneta pier, formerly known as Brisas. Public access to the pier at Rodger’s Beach has also reopened. Minister Wever emphasized that maintaining these traditions is vital for the future of the Primary Sector.

Speaking on the new initiative, Wever highlighted that fishing is an integral part of Aruban identity. “It is an honor to launch this program with my colleague Minister Croes so that youth can come together and connect with such an important element for the Primary Sector, and for Aruba,” the Minister stated.

The program’s first lesson is set for June 20. Authorities have asked parents to remain attentive as the online registration link will become active in the coming week for those interested in signing up their children.
