Leiden University Creates Kingdom Relations Center

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Leiden University in The Hague announced plans to establish a new Knowledge Center for Kingdom Relations beginning in September 2026.

According to the university, the center will bring together scientific researchers, develop educational programs focused on Kingdom relations, and contribute to public debate and mutual understanding within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The initiative will be supported by Campus The Hague, with the first organizational steps expected to begin in August 2026.

The project team currently includes Wouter Veenendaal as project leader and Tanja Fraai as communications and network advisor, while additional staff members are expected to join the center in the coming months.

Officials stated that the Knowledge Center aims to serve all parts of the Kingdom by connecting researchers from both the Caribbean and European regions.

The center will focus on governance, politics, climate change, migration, security, and socioeconomic development within the Kingdom structure.

Leiden University also emphasized the growing demand for educational programs and research related to Kingdom affairs.

The University of Aruba welcomed the initiative, stating that the center could strengthen cooperation, knowledge sharing, and educational development throughout the Kingdom.
