ORANJESTAD (AAN) – A 39-year-old American tourist died Friday afternoon following a fatal ATV accident near Boca Indjeco, also known as Blackstone Beach, on Aruba’s northern coast.
Emergency calls began reaching authorities around 12:30 p.m. reporting a serious accident involving an ATV during a guided tour in the area.
Police patrols from San Nicolas, ambulance personnel, firefighters, forensic officers, and traffic investigators were immediately dispatched to the scene after reports indicated that one of the victims had suffered severe injuries and CPR efforts were underway.
According to witnesses, the group of female tourists was participating in an ATV tour while visiting Aruba to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend.
During the tour near Blackstone Beach, the ATV reportedly encountered a deep hole along the route. The woman driving the ATV managed to jump away from the vehicle in time, but the passenger seated behind her was unable to escape before the ATV fell into the deep hole.
The victim suffered severe chest injuries during the accident.
Rescue teams managed to remove the victim from the deep hole, but the heavy ATV remained trapped at the scene due to difficult conditions.
Despite emergency medical efforts, the victim showed no vital signs. Dr. Wemeijer officially confirmed the death of the American tourist identified by initials V.M.L.
Victim assistance services were also present to support the friends and companions of the deceased tourist.
The Aruba Police Force and DIARIO extended condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim.
