ORANJESTAD – Finance Minister Geoffrey Wever has submitted the 2026 Spring Memorandum (Voorjaarsnota 2026) to Parliament, including the first budget amendment for the year.
The document mainly focuses on financial measures aimed at reducing the economic impact of the conflict involving Iran, particularly the increase in international oil prices.
As part of the proposed measures, the government reduced excise taxes on gasoline and eliminated excise taxes on diesel fuel. The estimated cost of these measures is approximately 5.1 million florins.
According to the memorandum, the primary objective is to protect the purchasing power of Aruba’s residents while maintaining economic stability during uncertain global conditions.
The report also noted that several ministries made internal financial adjustments to create additional budget space and reserve buffers in case of further economic pressure affecting Aruba.
The supplementary budget proposal will now continue through the review process with CAft and the Raad van Advies before being officially presented to Parliament.
