The Union of Workers of Aruba (STA) continues to advocate for the modernization of Serlimar to ensure the company’s future. STA President Diego de Cuba discussed recent meetings with management, emphasizing the need to formalize Serlimar as an NV (Naamloze Vennootschap). This structure, de Cuba argued, would allow for a Collective Labor Agreement (CAO) and a transparent salary system, similar to other state-owned entities. The union confirmed that the long-stalled ‘vuilnisoeslag’ (waste surcharge) is now being paid to workers. However, STA remains concerned about the financial strain caused by past political hiring sprees. The union plans to hold further meetings with the company management and the relevant Minister to address these structural issues and protect the rights of the 161 employees.
