On Friday morning, Minister of Justice, Integration, Public Transport, and Energy, mr. drs. Arthur Dowers, visited the office of the Bureau Integrity Aruba (BIA), where director Marielle Meaux and her team officially presented the new website www.gio.aw. GIO, which stands for Gedragscode Integriteit Overheidsmedewerkers (Code of Conduct for Integrity of Government Employees), is a strategic tool of the Department of Human Resources together with BIA to strengthen knowledge and correct behavior among public employees. The platform provides concrete guidance to government employees on how to have conversations about (possible) integrity violations with their superiors or colleagues, based on the official code of conduct. This initiative not only educates but also protects government employees. By identifying risks early and providing tools to handle delicate situations, GIO contributes to a culture of responsibility, trust, and transparency within the governmental apparatus. Despite some setbacks during the development process, BIA staff showed commitment and dedication by ensuring the website was completed on time. During a test weekend, final evaluations were made to implement the last necessary adjustments before the official launch this week. In addition to the digital platform, BIA has been operating from their completely new office for several months, located at Henny Eman Boulevard 20, formerly known as the office of Notary Yarzagaray. The new space reinforces the institutional capacity of BIA to continue working on integrity in the public sector.
