AHATA Demands Urgent Investigation Following Grave Accusations Against Hotel Sector

ORANJESTAD — The Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA) has formally requested a thorough investigation after Member of Parliament Carlos Bermudez leveled serious accusations against the entire hotel industry, alleging worker abuse and mistreatment without presenting concrete evidence.

Letter to the Minister

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Tourism, Labor, and Transport, Wendrick Cicilia, AHATA rejected the accusations and emphasized that the sector remains committed to responsible employment practices and dignified working conditions for all employees.

Full Cooperation Pledged

According to the organization, the hotel sector — one of the main drivers of Aruba’s economy — is fully prepared to cooperate with any independent investigation to clarify the situation. AHATA has asked the government to present a concrete action plan within 30 days, followed by the investigation’s findings.

Industry Concerns

AHATA’s firm stance reflects growing concern within the tourism sector about the impact of unfounded public accusations, while insisting on transparency to protect both the industry’s reputation and the well-being of workers.
