ORANJESTAD (AAN): On Monday night, April 1, 2026, several fires broke out in the Oranjestad area, prompting an immediate response from both police and firefighters. The Aruban Fire Department was mobilized to multiple locations, including Driemasterstraat, Banda di Win Lee Supermarket, and Venezuelastraat, near TatFat.

The fires, suspected to be deliberately set, are being treated as pyromaniac incidents, which has raised concern within the local community. Fire units from both Tanki Flip and Sabana Berde were involved in extinguishing the flames and ensuring the safety of nearby residents. While the extent of the damage has yet to be fully assessed, the quick response helped minimize any further spread of the fires.

Police have launched an investigation into the fire incidents, seeking to identify any potential suspects involved in starting the fires. Local authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety of the community and prevent any further occurrences of similar incidents. In addition to the emergency response, there have been calls from community leaders for increased vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities to help prevent further fire-related crimes.

The authorities have not yet confirmed if these incidents are connected, but they are taking all necessary precautions to address the situation. Aruba has experienced incidents of arson in the past, but the recent uptick in pyromaniac activity is a cause for concern. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The Aruban Fire Department has reiterated the importance of fire safety, especially in urban areas like Oranjestad, where the density of buildings and infrastructure can increase the risk of fire-related damage.
