The Youth Cup was officially established in 1992, following the period when Felipe B. Tromp, Aruba’s first Governor, passed on his responsibilities to his successor, Mr. Olindo Koolman.
Felipe B. Tromp was born in Aruba on October 15, 1917, and passed away on August 12, 1995. During his lifetime, he distinguished himself as an important figure in the island’s social and cultural development.
He actively participated in several cultural and community initiatives, including the Fundacion Centro Cultural Aruba, which played an important role in promoting culture and artistic development on the island.

In addition to his cultural contributions, Tromp also held several important positions in public service. Throughout his career, he served as a politician, minister, and inspector of education.
In 1986, he made history by becoming the first Governor of Aruba, a position that marked a major milestone following Aruba’s constitutional changes.
