ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Aruba CPI January 2026 Shows Slight Price Decrease, according to the latest report released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for January 2026 was recorded at 109.19, representing a 0.3% decrease compared to December 2025, when the index stood at 109.47. The Aruba CPI January 2026 Shows Slight Price Decrease mainly due to lower prices in several key sectors including transportation, clothing, and recreation.

CBS also reported that the change in CPI over the past twelve months—from January 2025 to January 2026—stands at 0.5%, which represents an increase of 0.2 percentage points compared to the same period the previous year.

Looking at the broader trend, the average annual inflation rate over the last 24 months—covering January 2024 to January 2026—was 0.1%. This marks a decline of 1.5 percentage points compared to the 1.6% inflation rate recorded during the previous two-year period from January 2023 to January 2025.

During January 2026, five of the twelve CPI sectors recorded price decreases. The sectors with the largest impact on the overall CPI were:

  • Transportation: -3.0%

  • Clothing and Footwear: -6.1%

  • Recreation and Culture: -1.5%

These decreases contributed to reductions of -0.39, -0.13, and -0.13 percentage points respectively to the overall CPI. Other sectors that experienced smaller declines contributed an additional -0.07 percentage points.

However, these decreases were partially offset by increases in other sectors, particularly Furniture and Household Equipment, which rose by 3.2% and contributed 0.26 percentage points to the CPI. Other sectors with price increases contributed an additional 0.20 percentage points.

The drop in the Transportation sector was largely caused by a 3.3% decrease in expenses related to the use of personal vehicles, which contributed -0.26 percentage points to the CPI change.

Similarly, the Clothing and Footwear sector saw a 5.4% decline in clothing prices, while the Recreation and Culture sector experienced decreases in vacation costs (-3.4%) and recreational equipment (-2.3%).

CBS also analyzed Aruba’s consumer basket, which includes 408 goods and services used to measure the CPI. Compared to December 2025:

  • 48.0% of goods and services increased in price, contributing 0.74 percentage points

  • 36.5% decreased in price, contributing -0.99 percentage points

  • 15.4% remained unchanged

Both goods (-0.1%) and services (-0.4%) recorded price decreases, which contributed to the overall decline in the CPI for January 2026.

In terms of core inflation, which excludes the effects of energy and food prices, the CPIC increased by 1.0% in January 2026. Meanwhile, the energy index—which includes electricity, water, gasoline, and diesel—declined by 3.9%, while the food index increased slightly by 0.4%.

The Aruba CPI January 2026 Shows Slight Price Decrease, indicating relatively stable inflation conditions while certain sectors experienced moderate price adjustments.
