ORANJESTAD (AAN): The Guarda Nos Costa 24th Anniversary Celebrated with Pride and Commitment marks an important milestone in Aruba’s law enforcement history. On Sunday morning, members of Guarda Nos Costa (GNC) gathered to commemorate 24 years of dedicated service in the presence of Minister of Justice, Mr. drs. Arthur Dowers.

Looking back at its history, Guarda Nos Costa was officially inaugurated on March 1, 2002, with the primary mission of ensuring compliance with Aruba’s admission and expulsion laws. Over the past 24 years, the department has played a critical role in maintaining border control and supporting national security.

Today, Guarda Nos Costa consists of 40 agents who provide valuable operational support to the Aruba Police Force (KPA), DIMAS, Immigration authorities, and other partners within the judicial chain. Their responsibilities include monitoring undocumented individuals, enforcing immigration laws, managing detention procedures, and coordinating deportations when required by law.

During the early years of the department, Trudy Hassel and Chu Rincones led the organization and laid the foundation for its development. Their leadership helped establish the structure and operational standards that continue to guide the department today.

Currently, David Leer is serving in a dual leadership role, carrying temporary responsibility for both Immigration and Guarda Nos Costa. His commitment to guiding both departments with professionalism and dedication reflects the ongoing stability within the organization.

The Guarda Nos Costa 24th Anniversary Celebrated with Pride and Commitment event included a special breakfast gathering at MooMba Beach Bar & Restaurant. The occasion provided staff members with an opportunity to come together outside of the work environment and reflect on their shared mission and achievements.

Minister Dowers expressed deep appreciation for the daily efforts of GNC personnel. He acknowledged their professionalism and dedication, emphasizing the importance of their role in protecting Aruba’s borders and ensuring compliance with national laws. He also wished the team continued strength and determination in carrying out their responsibilities.

Over the past two decades, Guarda Nos Costa has remained committed to security, responsibility, and stability within Aruba’s community. As the department celebrates its 24th anniversary, it stands firm with a clear mission and continued dedication to safeguarding Aruba and its borders.
