ORANJESTAD (AAN) – A tragic Aruba Heatstroke Incident occurred in San Nicolas when a 5-year-old girl was left inside a van for over an hour during extreme heat, suffering severe heatstroke. On Diamars, with temperatures reaching 31°C, the van’s interior reached dangerous levels of 50-60°C, putting the child’s life in serious jeopardy.
The child’s condition worsened, and by the time the crèche staff realized she was in distress, she had already suffered severe neurological damage, resulting in a coma. Emergency services in San Nicolas attempted to stabilize the child, but given the severity of her condition, doctors recommended transferring her to specialized care in Bogotá, Colombia.
Despite delays due to traffic and ambulance availability, a special air ambulance was arranged for the transport. The local police assisted in clearing the way for the emergency services. Authorities are investigating the crèche driver’s role in the incident.
