PPA Supports Kingdom Alliance

PPA Kingdom Alliance

The PPA Kingdom Alliance position was strongly reaffirmed during IPKO 2026 in Aruba, according to Parliamentarian Eduard Pieters.

For the first time, Pieters participated in the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO) held in Aruba. He emphasized that IPKO is not merely a diplomatic formality, but a strategic platform where the autonomous countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Netherlands itself confront shared challenges and define common priorities.

Although PPA holds only one seat in Parliament, Pieters stated that the party’s presence was clear: Aruba must lead with dignity, clarity, and vision.

A Kingdom of Autonomous Countries

According to Pieters, each country presented its own developments and concerns during IPKO. He stressed that the Dutch Kingdom is not a uniform structure. While major issues such as public finances, institutional stability, and legal security require common alignment, each country has its own local realities.

“What applies to Curaçao or Sint Maarten is not always identical for Aruba,” Pieters noted. Autonomy means decisions must be adapted to Aruba’s specific context without losing the broader cooperation within the Kingdom.

Strategic Cooperation, Not Dependence

The PPA Kingdom Alliance vision supports strong ties within the Kingdom — not as dependence, but as a strategic partnership. Issues such as trade, climate, migration, education, and security transcend borders. As a small country, Aruba must use the Kingdom platform intelligently to strengthen collaboration while safeguarding its autonomy.

Pieters emphasized that cooperation should not be conditional. The Netherlands must respect the position of the autonomous countries, and Aruba must approach negotiations well-prepared and united.

National Unity as Political Strength

The fact that IPKO was hosted in Aruba carries symbolic importance, Pieters said. However, symbolism alone is not enough.

PPA advocates for a national front on constitutional and economic matters affecting Aruba’s position within the Kingdom. According to Pieters, there is no room for partisan division when national interests are at stake. A united country carries more negotiating weight than a fragmented one.

Autonomy as a Continuous Commitment

Pieters concluded by stating that Status Aparte and autonomy are not ceremonial concepts, but ongoing responsibilities. Aruba must maintain fiscal discipline, strategic planning, and coherent leadership to preserve credibility within the Kingdom.

“IPKO in Aruba showed that we have the opportunity to lead dialogue within the Kingdom. PPA will continue to strengthen cooperation, but always with a clear line: respect for autonomy and protection of the interests of the people of Aruba. A strong country is not one that follows blindly, but one that negotiates with wisdom, unity, and determination,” Pieters said.
