The AVP-Futuro Cabinet has announced that, starting January 1, 2026, government personnel salary increase in Aruba will take effect, impacting key positions and specialized roles within the government. This initiative is designed to prevent the departure of professionals in higher government ranks and improve the retention of qualified staff.
Minister Geoffrey Wever emphasized that this salary increase for government personnel in Aruba will provide a clearer career progression and salary growth for employees in their respective positions. The goal is to enhance the stability of Aruba’s government by ensuring that professionals are fairly compensated and motivated to continue their work in the public sector.
The salary adjustments are part of a broader effort to balance public sector salaries with those in the private sector, where the salaries for similar roles are significantly higher. According to studies conducted by Deloitte in 2016 and Curconsult in 2023, public sector salaries in higher scales were lower than those in the private sector, particularly for management positions.
A budget of 5 million Florin has been allocated for this change, with 3.3 million Florin going directly to the salary increases. The restructuring will ensure that personnel in key positions (scales 13–16) will now benefit from periodic salary adjustments, a change from the previous structure where they were not receiving this benefit.
Key Points of the Salary Increase for Government Personnel in Aruba:
-
Salary increase for key government personnel in higher ranks to prevent turnover.
-
New salary structure for positions in scales 13 to 16 starting January 2026.
-
5 million Florin allocated to improve government salary structures, with 3.3 million Florin dedicated to the increases.
-
Rebalancing public sector salaries to be more competitive with the private sector.
Minister Wever also stated that the restructuring will create growth opportunities and address issues related to salary discrepancies between public and private sectors. As a result, the Cabinet is focused on maintaining financial sustainability while providing fair compensation to government employees.
