Today, the Court of Justice handed down a sentence for B., Aruba man sentenced for abuse, rape his wife, V., on August 11, 2025.
In a hearing held on January 9, 2026, B. was asked to respond to the charges. He stated that at the time of the crime, he was under the influence of drugs and was acting as another person. He admitted to abusing his wife but claimed he could not remember the exact details, though he acknowledged his actions were violent. He also stated he did not intend to hurt her.
The victim, V., confirmed the abuse, stating that B. had used his phone to strike her. The court presented a horrific image of the abuse, showing V. severely bruised and hospitalized. She described being forced into a sexual relationship, despite her refusal. She reported that B. locked her in a room and insisted on the act.
Despite claiming remorse and turning to God, B. failed to take full responsibility for his actions during the trial. The prosecutor highlighted the severity of the abuse, showing that V. had suffered from brain hemorrhage and had been hospitalized for five days. The prosecutor also noted the psychological impact on V. and her children.
The prosecutor demanded 7 years in prison for B. and requested that he receive treatment for his addiction. The victim also requested €15,000 in damages, and the court was asked to approve the claim for the damage to her phone, worth €300.
The court will issue the final decision soon, and DIARIO will inform the public of the outcome.
