ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AAN) — The University of Aruba new year reception took place over the weekend, marking the start of the academic year while continuing a valued tradition rooted in connection, reflection, and shared purpose.
With strong participation from staff and faculty across the institution, the reception highlighted the University of Aruba’s identity as a people-centered institution, united by a collective commitment to advancing knowledge and serving society.
During a thoughtfully prepared lunch by Nick Gordon of Nicolaas Store, a talented alumnus of the University, attendees reflected on the lasting impact of education and the strength of the university’s extended academic community.
In her address, Rector Sue-Ann Lee, MSc, reflected on the origins of the University of Aruba, founded in 1988, and its role in Aruba’s nation-building process. She emphasized that the university’s identity is shaped by the daily actions and values of its community.
The Rector also officially presented key highlights of the Multi-Annual Strategic Plan, developed through an inclusive and participatory process involving lecturers, staff members, coordinators, and managers from across the university.
Rector Lee encouraged all members of the university community to read, discuss, and reflect on the strategic plan, making it personally meaningful. Guided by core values such as academic integrity, respect, collaboration, responsibility, and curiosity, the shared roadmap aims to strengthen an inclusive academic community and prepare the institution for the future.
