Aruba Teachers  will begin receiving their long-awaited salary increase starting this month, marking a significant step toward strengthening the education system and recognizing the vital role educators play in shaping the nation’s future.

Parliamentarian Jennifer Arends-Reyes expressed her satisfaction with the recent approval of the salary increase, stating that it sends a clear message that Aruba values the essential contribution teachers make to the development of children, youth, and the wider community.

“Teachers are the backbone of our education system. Investing in them means investing in the progress of our country and future generations,” Arends-Reyes said. For 2026, the AVP–Futuro government has allocated Afl. 9.3 million, with the total investment expected to reach Afl. 16 million by 2028.

She noted that for many years, teachers have carried heavy responsibilities both inside and outside the classroom, often without fair financial recognition for their dedication and efforts. The salary increase is intended to motivate current teachers, retain experienced professionals, and attract new talent to the education sector.

Arends-Reyes emphasized that this approval should not be seen as the end of the process, but rather as part of a broader effort to strengthen education in Aruba. Alongside salary improvements, she stressed the importance of better working conditions, continuous professional development, and adequate human resources.

The parliamentarian also thanked the government, parliament, and representatives of the education sector for the constructive dialogue that made this achievement possible, noting that a second phase of reforms is still pending.

She concluded by reaffirming her commitment to defending education in parliament, stating that a country that invests in its teachers is choosing progress, equality, and opportunity for all its citizens.
