Time to Change the Law and Impose Harsher Penalties for Drunk Driving in Aruba

Speaking with DIARIO, Croes said most fatal accidents were caused by alcohol use while driving. She stressed that Aruba must act quickly by updating outdated laws, increasing fines, and imposing tougher penalties to deter irresponsible drivers.

Foundation Zinnia has led traffic safety awareness campaigns for over 10 years. While some behavioral improvement is visible, Croes noted that for certain groups the situation is worsening, signaling that awareness alone is no longer enough.

She called for intensified police controls with more resources and personnel, alongside legal reforms that make offenders “feel the consequences in their wallets.” Croes also urged organizations to work together with one clear goal, increasing pressure on the Government of Aruba to implement stricter drunk driving laws in Aruba.
