Public Spending Management Shows Greater Discipline, Marking a Positive Step Toward Stability and Wellbeing

During the public debate on the Second Supplementary Budget 2025, Jennifer Arends-Reyes, leader of the AVP parliamentary faction, presented a clear, constructive, and solution-oriented assessment, highlighting positive signs of economic recovery and ongoing efforts to safeguard the wellbeing of the Aruban population.

According to Arends-Reyes, Aruba is entering a new phase following the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are seeing more careful fiscal management, combined with strategic investments, creating a stronger foundation for a stable and resilient economy,” she stated. The Second Supplementary Budget, she said, confirms that the government is making responsible decisions while remaining attentive to the social needs of the community.

The AVP faction noted that increased national revenues—driven mainly by the tourism sector and more efficient tax collection—are a clear signal that confidence in the economy is returning. At the same time, public spending is being managed with greater discipline, focusing on priorities that directly impact quality of life.

Arends-Reyes commended the government for continuing to invest in social welfare, including additional funding for education, healthcare, and support for vulnerable families. “This shows that economic growth is not an end in itself, but a means to create more opportunities and protection for our people,” she emphasized.

The AVP faction also underlined the importance of sustained investment in infrastructure, renewable energy, and support for small and medium-sized businesses. These elements, according to Arends-Reyes, are essential for diversifying Aruba’s economic base and creating sustainable employment for both the present and the future.

Overall, the AVP faction considers the Second Supplementary Budget 2025 a positive step toward fiscal stability, responsible growth, and social wellbeing. AVP reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its oversight role with responsibility and cooperation, contributing to a stronger, more stable Aruba with greater prospects for all citizens.
