Modernization Keeps Aruba Ahead of the Curve

The Government of Aruba, through the Minister responsible for Energy, Mr. Drs. Arthur Dowers, together with WEB Aruba and technical partner Florida Aqua Store, has officially inaugurated the new water tank in Alto Vista—a vital installation designed to ensure a reliable, high-quality water supply for the Noord area and the island’s tourism sector.

Minister Dowers emphasized Aruba’s strong expertise and solid work ethic, noting:

“We have the expertise, we have the right approach, and we are on the correct path to guarantee reliable water for future generations.”

A Major Investment Strengthening Aruba’s Water Infrastructure

In his address, Minister Dowers highlighted that Aruba continues to make firm progress in modernizing its water distribution systems:
The new tank plays a crucial role in delivering uninterrupted, high-quality water to households and the tourism industry. He stressed the need to prepare for future growth and climate-related challenges.

He also thanked WEB Aruba for its consistency and professionalism in managing a technically demanding project.

Technical Challenges Overcome Successfully

WEB Aruba explained that the new tank—constructed using glass-fused-to-steel technology and offering a capacity of 18,800 m³ (6,500 m³ larger than the previous tank)—was a challenging undertaking.

During 2024, construction progressed steadily, but during the final stage before filling, a leakage was detected in the concrete foundation.

Following a detailed investigation, the team made a critical technical decision:
the complete replacement of the concrete foundation with a modern and durable steel system.

Minister Dowers praised the “tremendous teamwork” that allowed the tank to safely enter operation.

Appreciation for the Alto Vista Community

Minister Dowers and WEB Aruba expressed gratitude to the residents of Alto Vista for their patience during the project. As a gesture of appreciation, WEB donated a free water connection to the Alto Vista Chapel to support its restroom facilities.

Aruba’s Water Network Modernization Continues

Minister Dowers also confirmed progress under the Upgrade Aruba Water Distribution Network Program, which includes:

  • Replacement of the Jaburibari and Urataka water tanks
  • Construction of a new tank in Juana Morto
