Young Participants Grateful for the Opportunities Offered Through Social Formation Program

With pride and deep satisfaction, the government has highlighted how the youth enrolled in the Social Formation Program (SVT) continue to embrace the opportunities given to them, achieving personal growth through effort, discipline, and determination.

Prime Minister Mike Eman expressed this sentiment during the graduation ceremony of the young participants who successfully completed the SVT program.

Several graduates shared their experiences after completing the program. G’Dior Tromp, from San Fuego, explained that the beginning was difficult—he rarely spoke to anyone. But as the days passed and he began interacting with the other participants, he gradually opened up.

He received strong support, built bonds, and now believes SVT is the best decision he has made. Tromp will continue his development with an internship at Arikok National Park, while considering his next step, likely joining the Kazerne.

Another graduate, Bradley Werleman from St. Cruz, also described the experience as positive, although the first phase was challenging for everyone. What he encountered during the program far exceeded his expectations.

He shared new experiences, traveled to Curaçao, won medals, and joined groups and activities he never imagined possible. He is grateful for the opportunity and excited for the next phase—ARUMIL—which has opened many doors and helped him recognize opportunities he does not want to miss.

The SVT program provided him with a sense of purpose, structure, and a new perspective on life. What used to be a routine of skipping school and hanging out all day was replaced by motivation to grow and move forward. Werleman described his graduation as both a personal achievement and a tribute to his parents, mentors, and former Prime Minister Mike Eman, who launched the project.

Graduate Kendrick Yarzagaray, from Tanki Leendert, also expressed pride in having completed the program. After facing difficulties in his studies, he sought an alternative and found in the Kazerne a path toward a better future.

He adapted, learned continuously, and is proud to make his family happy. Kendrick is grateful for the opportunity and hopes to continue—either through internships or joining ARUMIL.

About the Social Formation Program (SVT)

SVT offers young people ages 17–25 in Aruba an opportunity to build discipline and prepare for the job market. The program includes:

Phase 1 – Military Training

Conducted at the Marine Barracks in Savaneta under ARUMIL supervision (approx. 16 weeks), focusing on physical training, discipline, and respect.

Phase 2 – Employment/Study

Training courses and internships at local companies through the Education for Employment initiative, opening doors to jobs or continued studies.

More than 80% of participants who complete the program find employment or pursue further education. Once open only to male participants, the program now welcomes young women in separate groups.
