All Tax Forms to Be Fully Digital Next Year as Digitalization Journey Continues

The Director of the Department of Taxation (DIMP), Luenne Gomez-Pieters, announced in an interview with Diario that the ongoing digitalization of tax processes has played a crucial role in boosting compliance and improving on-time filing across Aruba.

According to Gomez-Pieters, compliance for various tax categories has reached impressive levels:

  • Wage tax (Loonbelasting): 90% compliance
  • BBO tax: 87% compliance
  • Tourism levy: 92% compliance

She noted that in 2015, compliance percentages were much lower—around 63% to 68%. One of the major contributors to this improvement has been the digital transition, including the online submission of 2023 and 2024 profit tax (winstbelasting) forms.

Beginning next year, the Department will launch an extensive project to digitalize the 2025 income tax (inkomstenbelasting) process. With full digitalization, Gomez-Pieters explained that refunds can be processed more quickly, offering better service to the community.

In 2026, not only will income tax be fully digital, but every taxpayer’s account statement will also be accessible online through the DIMP portal. Until now, only businesses could log in to manage their payments. With the new system, all taxpayers will be able to check outstanding balances, view refunds, and even set up online payment arrangements independently.

“This is a major advancement in customer service, where taxpayers remain in control and no longer depend on a collector to create a payment plan,” Gomez-Pieters said. She added:
“Next year, all forms will be digital as part of a process that began in 2015. I want to thank everyone in the department who worked with great dedication to successfully achieve this digital transformation, as well as the public for the trust they have placed in us. In the end, our goal is to deliver a strong and reliable service to the community.
