Government Announces New Phase of Stability and Professionalism for Aruba Airport Authority

VIEWS

This week, the Government of Aruba announced the beginning of a new era of stability and professionalism at the Aruba Airport Authority (AAA), driven by the upcoming appointment of a new CEO and a renewed cooperation agreement with the Royal Schiphol Group. This marks the end of recent uncertainties and positions the airport to accelerate its major Gateway 2030 expansion phase.

While the official name of the new CEO will be revealed after the formal signing, the government emphasized that the incoming leader brings extensive experience in international airport management and infrastructure development. Under the guidelines of LNT, the CEO role will operate at the lowest total annual cost ever seen in AAA’s history—far below previous compensation packages and fully aligned with national standards of fairness and transparency.

The government also clarified that Aruba remains 100% owner of the airport. The agreement with Schiphol is a partnership, not a sale, ensuring that AAA gains access to world-class expertise, modern governance, and strong operational support while Aruba retains full decision-making control.

Gateway 2030 has now entered its most capital-intensive and risk-sensitive stage. Having a strong international partner like Schiphol provides essential confidence to lenders, airlines, investors, employees, and travelers as Aruba accelerates this major project.

Local candidates from Aruba remain fully eligible for future top executive roles, and a key priority under the renewed partnership is the training and development of local management. The government also reaffirmed its goal to appoint at least one local statutory director, in accordance with LNT guidelines.

“AAA is a strategic national asset,” stated Minister Wendrick Cicilia. “With this renewed partnership, the new CEO, and the fast-tracking of Gateway 2030, Aruba will benefit from a professionally managed airport, stronger operational continuity, and long-term advantages for our people.”
