WEB Transfers Foundations and Radiators to Wärtsilä for RECIP-3 Expansion

In August 2026, WEB Aruba is set to increase its firm energy capacity by 36 MW, bringing the total to approximately 290 MW. On November 17, 2025, the official transfer of the primary foundations and radiators for the expansion of the RECIP-3 power plant took place. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Energy, Mr. Arthur Dowers, who witnessed the signing of the ‘handing over certificate’ between WEB and Wärtsilä Finland Oy.

The RECIP-3 plant expansion is a crucial step for WEB’s energy production process. Not only will it reduce power interruptions, but it will also support the transition to integrating renewable energy. With a reliable and firm energy capacity, Aruba will be able to utilize wind, solar, and battery storage more effectively. Once the expansion is completed, it will replace the ‘mobile’ plant, which has been in operation since August 2024.

The expansion of RECIP-3 is being carried out in multiple phases. The transfer of the primary foundations and radiators is the first achievement in the project, which has been completed in record time. As communicated by WEB Aruba, there has been a significant increase in energy demand due to rising temperatures and growing tourism, putting pressure on the energy plants since mid-2023. The expansion is part of a strategic plan to meet the growing energy demand.

With the RECIP-3 expansion combined with upcoming renewable energy projects, including storage, it will be sufficient to meet energy demands through 2031. During the ceremony, WEB’s CEO, Alfredo Koolman, expressed confidence in the collective effort to achieve the ambitious goal of 50% renewable energy. With clearer plans for wind, solar, and energy storage projects, this target is considered realistic. The recent contribution from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate in the Netherlands for 2025 and the following years is expected to further support this initiative.
