Aruba Raises Alert Level to Orange Following Oil Spill Near Trinidad & Tobago

The Crisis Management Office (CMO) announced that Aruba has raised its alert level from Yellow to Orange in response to the oil spill incident near Trinidad & Tobago, which has now reached the shores of Bonaire and Curaçao.

Aruba had been monitoring the situation since February 12, 2024, while remaining at the Yellow phase. However, after confirmation that oil patches and tar residues have reached neighboring islands, the alert level was elevated to Orange, placing the island on standby for potential impact.

Under the Orange phase, coastal monitoring efforts have been intensified to detect any possible arrival of oil patches along Aruba’s beaches. Immediate cleanup actions will be taken if contamination is found in areas accessible to the public or where turtles nest.

The CMO urges residents and visitors to stay vigilant and report any signs of oil or tar on the coastline via email (cmo@crisis.aw) or phone at 588-0100 / +297 592 9600 (WhatsApp).

This precautionary measure aims to protect Aruba’s marine life, beaches, and public safety as regional authorities continue to manage the environmental threat.
