The trash problem in the San Fuego neighborhood of Santa Cruz has reached alarming levels, reflecting a wider issue across Aruba where illegal dumps are increasingly appearing on street corners and open lots.
During a recent visit, our editorial team discovered an illegal dumping site filled with a variety of discarded items — including an old car, garbage bags, a broken refrigerator, and a bicycle. These piles of waste seem to have been left by individuals who take advantage of the lack of monitoring and enforcement in the area.
Residents have voiced growing frustration as their once-clean neighborhood continues to deteriorate. Many believe the issue has worsened due to limited access to proper waste disposal facilities and stricter government rules on trash collection.
The situation not only damages the island’s environment but also poses potential health risks. Locals are urgently calling on the authorities to take immediate action, enforce stricter penalties against illegal dumping, and provide more accessible and organized waste management solutions before the problem escalates further.
