Carentra Expands Used Oil Collection to Support Environmental Protection in Aruba

During a press conference on Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Mike Eman announced that the neighborhood clean-up initiative, “Baki den Bario,” will continue in the Bubali area. This phase of the program will allow residents not only to dispose of household waste but also to drop off used oil for proper recycling.

Engineer Jamal Mahawat Khan, Director of Carentra, explained that residents can now bring in any type of used oil, including hydraulic, motor, and cooking oils. He noted that many people are unaware that Aruba has a leading recycling and scrap trading company, Carentra, located at Barcadera 118, which specializes in the treatment and reuse of used oil.

Several companies in Aruba collect used oil for export to Europe, where it is reprocessed. Carentra, however, focuses on local recycling efforts—repurposing the oil for industrial use and converting used motor oil into diesel fuel for the island. Some of this processing occurs in Aruba, while the remainder is exported.

At its facility in Barcadera, Carentra accepts all types of oil free of charge, though the company does not purchase oil. This initiative aims to reduce illegal oil disposal, which can severely damage Aruba’s sewage and marine systems.

Carentra operates Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The facility is easily recognizable by its two large black storage tanks visible from the main road.
