Tourism Growth and Labor Market Challenges Highlighted

On Tuesday, Minister Wendrick Cicilia met with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of the organization’s regular Article IV consultation mission, held every two years. This mission provides an opportunity to review Aruba’s economic performance, exchange perspectives on challenges and opportunities, and strengthen policy coordination with international partners.

The discussions focused on Aruba’s economic outlook, the central role of tourism, and pressing issues such as labor shortages affecting several sectors. The IMF also reviewed the government’s broader approach to public sector management, underlining the importance of long-term resilience, sound fiscal practices, and sustainable growth.

Tourism Performance (January–August 2025):

  • Stayover arrivals: 1,036,988 (+5% compared to 2024)
  • Cruise visitors: 605,183 (–2.6% compared to 2024)
  • Visitor nights: 6.9 million (+2.4%)

These results underscore Aruba’s strong position as a leading destination, while also highlighting the need to manage growth responsibly and address structural challenges such as workforce availability.

Minister Wendrick Cicilia expressed appreciation for the constructive dialogue with the IMF and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing policies that promote economic stability, strengthen institutional capacity, and ensure that the benefits of tourism and development are widely shared among the Aruban people.
