On the first official day of their working visit to the Netherlands, the Aruban parliamentary delegation began a series of important meetings ahead of the Tripartite sessions with Curaçao and St. Maarten, and the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO).

The first meeting took place at the Council of State, where the delegation met with Aruba’s representative, Mr. Andy Lee. The Council of State is a key advisory body within the Kingdom, offering recommendations on draft legislation. The session allowed for a fruitful exchange of ideas and questions.

The delegation also visited The Hague University of Applied Sciences, where they held a “meet & greet” with Aruban students living in the Netherlands. Students shared their experiences and concerns on critical issues, including Dutch language support, course accessibility, housing shortages, high cost of living, and personal financial management.

All parliamentarians actively participated, responding to the students’ questions and offering feedback.

Jennifer Arends-Reyes, President of the Commission on Kingdom Relations and Foreign Affairs, opened the session, emphasizing the importance of direct dialogue. “We believe that open conversations with students and institutions are essential to identifying real challenges and working together on solutions,” she stated.

The delegation, including members of the AVP party and Aruba’s Parliament, will continue official meetings throughout the week in the Netherlands, with the goal of strengthening Kingdom relations and defending the interests of the Aruban people at the international level.
