STA Union Reaches Two Major Agreements with AAA NV Interim Director James Fazio

The President of the Sindicato di Trahadornan di Aruba (STA), Mr. Diego de Cuba, met on Friday with Mr. James Fazio, Interim Executive Director of AAA NV (Aruba Airport Authority), and announced two major achievements for airport employees.

De Cuba expressed satisfaction with the meeting, noting that Fazio’s operational background allows him to understand the workers’ perspective. One of the main topics was shift changes for security staff. Previously, Human Resources had limited shift changes to only three times, creating pressure on employees. After reviewing the arguments, Fazio agreed that as long as coverage is maintained, shift changes will no longer be restricted. A one-month trial will take place, and if it works well, the policy will remain permanent.

“This is an important achievement,” said De Cuba, “because workers need flexibility for their personal and social lives, and not be under unnecessary pressure.”

The second agreement concerned meal allowances. Workers who put in double overtime shifts in one day were only given a single meal benefit. Fazio resolved the issue, ensuring that employees will now receive proper allowances when working extended hours.

Although De Cuba acknowledged that not everyone in HR was happy with the decision, he emphasized that Fazio’s operational knowledge of the airport and his career path from the ground up give him a strong understanding of employees’ needs.

With these decisions, STA highlighted that two major benefits were secured for airport workers, removing the threat of a strike and improving working conditions.
