KIA wall maintenance has begun while Aruba prepares another training group for correctional staff, Justice Minister Arthur Dowers said in an update reported by English 24ora on October 14.
Exterior work and staffing preparations
According to the report, maintenance on the Aruba Correctional Institution’s exterior walls is underway. Dowers also said internal relocations and smaller adjustments had been made.
He said a new group of trainees would begin training to help address staffing shortages. The report did not give a start date or the size of that upcoming group.
New prison remains under evaluation
Dowers said a working group was examining available land, capacity and requirements for a possible new prison. Those evaluations do not establish an approved site, construction timetable or completed facility.
