Traffic Congestion Concerns and Call for Solutions in Palm Beach Area

Taxi driver Ronny Gomes has raised concerns about the ongoing traffic congestion issues in Aruba, particularly in areas near the Palm Beach Plaza. Gomes points out the challenges faced by drivers, especially when there are events like concerts at the Convention Center, which often block traffic flow.

Gomes emphasizes that the current parking situation at hotels is inadequate, with only the Hyatt Regency providing sufficient parking space. He suggests that this ongoing traffic problem is a source of frustration, as drivers often find themselves stuck in traffic every day.

To address these issues, Gomes proposes the creation of two roundabouts in the hotel area, one near Palm Beach Plaza, and hopes that local companies like Setar, Elmar, and others might sponsor such projects. However, he criticizes the government’s response, claiming that they have not prioritized these necessary developments.

According to Gomes, Aruba’s population has grown to over 130,000, and with this increase comes more cars on the road. He highlights that the growth of tourism, particularly students and Airbnb guests, further contributes to the congestion. He also stresses that traffic issues are exacerbated in places like Eagle Beach, where the roads become extremely crowded.

In his remarks, Gomes draws attention to the lack of parking options, with Palm Beach Plaza frequently full, leaving visitors with nowhere to park. He also mentions that people living in areas like Noord have only one route to get to the beach, causing more traffic.

Gomes concludes by stressing the importance of planning and implementing solutions that will ensure Aruba remains accessible and safe for residents and tourists alike.
