A delegation from Aruba was scheduled to travel to the Netherlands this weekend to address a series of important topics. Prime Minister Mike Eman was set to deliver one of the keynote lectures on Kingdom Relations on December 9 during the Inter Expo-Koninkrijk, alongside Dutch State Ministers Balkenende and Hirsch Ballin.
Prime Minister Eman also had scheduled meetings with leaders involved in the formation of the new Dutch government, as well as the signing of a new agreement with Schiphol Airport.
However, due to rising tensions in the Caribbean region, the Prime Minister made the decision to cancel his visit. Eman indicated that the current regional situation requires his presence in Aruba to lead preparations and assess possible scenarios.
He stated that there is no specific information about what may or may not happen, or on which day events could unfold, but emphasized that the tension in the region is undeniable.
“We have a responsibility here at home during these moments,” Eman said, noting that coordination with the Kingdom’s Foreign Relations and Defense authorities, as well as Aruba’s local institutions, is essential.
