Suspect Arrested After Threatening Police Officer With Firearm

ORANJESTAD:
A suspect has been arrested after threatening a police officer with a firearm during a patrol following the Torch Parade.

A police motor officer on patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle near a residence on Laurens Costenstraat. When the officer approached the car, the driver suddenly opened the door and struck the police motorcycle.

The passenger then exited the vehicle, drew a firearm, and aimed it directly at the officer. While the officer’s attention was focused on the armed passenger, the driver took advantage of the situation and fled the scene, abandoning his accomplice.

Backup units were immediately called in, and police launched a search of the surrounding neighborhood. Near the RCA field, officers located and arrested the suspect who had pointed the firearm, and the weapon was confiscated.

Authorities confirmed that both individuals are known to law enforcement. The driver who fled is still at large but is expected to be apprehended soon.

The arrested suspect now faces serious criminal charges, including attempted murder of a police officer in the line of duty.
