Significant Material Damage in Chain-Reaction Accident on Green Corridor

Early Thursday morning around 10:00 a.m., a chain-reaction traffic accident occurred on the Green Corridor near Sero Tijshi, resulting in significant material damage and temporary traffic disruption.

Traffic came to a standstill as police and ambulance services were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, police confirmed that five vehicles were involved in the collision.

According to preliminary information, a white MG MG3 hatchback failed to adjust its speed in time and collided with the rear of a white Hyundai Porter flatbed truck, causing it to be pushed forward into a gray Nissan Tiida.

A red Ford Escape taxi then struck the MG MG3 from behind, followed by a Toyota Hilux double-cab pickup, completing the chain collision. In total, the accident involved three passenger vehicles and two other automobiles.

Two ambulances responded to the incident. Paramedics assisted a woman at the scene who appeared to be in stable condition but was transported to the Emergency Department for precautionary checks, including a possible whiplash injury.

Authorities believe the accident was likely caused by insufficient following distance. Drivers are reminded to always maintain a minimum two-second following distance when driving on the Green Corridor or the WVB Boulevard. In rainy conditions, this distance should be increased to four seconds.

A simple way to measure this distance is by noting when the vehicle ahead passes a fixed object, such as a light pole, and counting the seconds it takes for your vehicle to reach the same point.

Drivers in Aruba are also taught during driving lessons to leave enough space ahead to allow another vehicle to safely merge or overtake — a practice that helps prevent accidents like this one.
