The Scol Saludabel Aruba Obesity Prevention initiative continues promoting healthy habits among Aruba’s children as concerns grow about rising obesity rates on the island and around the world.

Health officials warn that obesity has become one of the biggest public health challenges globally, with increasing numbers of children and adults experiencing overweight and obesity-related conditions. These health problems can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and emotional difficulties.

To address the issue, the Scol Saludabel Aruba Obesity Prevention program focuses on encouraging healthy eating, balanced nutrition, and physical activity in schools throughout Aruba.

According to Swinda Dumfries of DVG, the project is designed to help children and adults become more aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and developing positive habits that can last a lifetime.

Dumfries explained during an interview that obesity is not only a physical issue but also connected to emotional and social wellbeing. The Scol Saludabel Aruba Obesity Prevention initiative therefore places attention on the complete development of the child, including emotional health and healthy social behavior.

The program encourages healthy nutrition to begin at home while schools reinforce those habits through educational activities and awareness campaigns.

During the recent Healthy Week activities, which organizers described as highly successful, parents were also actively involved in the program. Officials believe that cooperation between schools, parents, and the wider community is essential in improving the health and wellbeing of children.

The Scol Saludabel Aruba Obesity Prevention campaign promotes the idea that children who learn healthy habits at an early age have greater opportunities to grow into stronger, happier, and more confident adults.

The initiative also teaches children the importance of exercise, emotional management, discipline, and respectful social interaction as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Dumfries stressed that obesity should never become a normal part of childhood in Aruba. She emphasized that parents carry the primary responsibility for guiding children toward healthy living, with support from schools, child-focused institutions, and the Government of Aruba.

The Scol Saludabel Aruba Obesity Prevention project reflects Aruba’s broader goal of creating a healthier and stronger community for future generations.

Health professionals continue encouraging families to work together in promoting balanced nutrition, active lifestyles, and positive emotional development to ensure children can grow up healthy and secure.

The Scol Saludabel Aruba Obesity Prevention initiative remains an important effort in protecting the future health and wellbeing of Aruba’s youth.
