Aruba’s government is preparing a comprehensive ROPV review expected to take approximately two years and include community consultation, 24ora reported on October 16, citing Minister Rene Herde.
Community consultation planned
Businesses, builders, environmental groups, sports organizations and residents are to have an opportunity to give their views on Aruba’s future spatial development, according to the report.
After the information-gathering and consultation phase, experts would prepare a new spatial plan. The proposal would undergo public consultation before legislation is prepared for submission to Parliament.
Tourism, housing and urban renewal
Herde said demand for visitor accommodation includes boutique hotels and smaller establishments as well as traditional hotels. An inventory of existing accommodation and planned projects is needed to inform development decisions, the report states.
The review’s stated aims include supporting development and revitalizing Oranjestad and San Nicolas, while taking housing, recreation and environmental protection into account.
