Police union SPA has asked for a Respaldo protocol on mental-health crisis responses to be completed and signed by October 31, 2026, according to 24ora’s October 16 report.
Joint letter asks for a signed agreement
SPA president Lito Lacle said the union sent a letter to Respaldo’s director, co-signed by the police chief, seeking agreement by the end of the month. The report said union representatives, police leadership and Respaldo representatives also met to put final touches on the document.
Crisis-team leadership proposed for November 1
The union’s stated aim is for Respaldo’s Crisis Team to take the lead on arrival at an incident from November 1. The team would work to de-escalate the situation while police provide safety support around the scene, according to the report.
The dates are the union’s requested timetable for the proposed arrangements, not an announcement that the protocol has already been signed.
