Recently, a tragic incident shook the people of Aruba when a car, with a driver inside, fell into the mud and sank. The first police officers to arrive at the scene did not hesitate and immediately jumped into the water, despite the difficult and dangerous conditions. After a few moments of intense effort, they managed to extract the driver from the car. Unfortunately, the driver showed no signs of life, and after being examined by a forensic doctor, the young man was confirmed dead. Despite the outcome, the bravery, courage, and responsibility of the officers provided comfort to the grieving family.
The police command took note of the exceptional efforts of these officers, who risked their lives in the line of duty. As a result, officers L.K. Lesier, J.A. Paesch, and R.F.J. Werleman were personally commended by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Arnhem. Each officer was praised for their hard work and awarded the highest honor in the Aruba Police Force, the “oorkonde” certificate.
Since 2025, the Aruba Police Force has introduced a “Wall of Recognition” where the portraits of colleagues who have gone the extra mile in their duties are displayed. Deputy Commissioner Arnhem remarked, “We recognize our colleagues because each of our officers risks their own lives daily to ensure the safety of others. This wall is a reflection and appreciation of the excellent work of each police officer in our force. Thank you to our colleagues for their hard work, dedication, and effort.
