Our Top 4 Island Experiences in Aruba

Aruba may be small, but it’s packed with unforgettable experiences beyond the classic beach day. Here are my top four must-try adventures on this sunny Caribbean island.

1. A Hike Through Arikok National Park

Covering 7,907 acres on Aruba’s east coast, Arikok National Park is a natural wonder you won’t want to miss. The landscape is strikingly diverse, with unusual volcanic formations, lush greenery, and a rugged coastline that meets pristine white sands.

Keep an eye out for lizards and parakeets as you explore limestone caves adorned with authentic Arawak Indian drawings. For the ultimate view, scale Jamanota Hill, the island’s highest point, and soak in breathtaking panoramic vistas of Aruba’s coastline.

2. Diving the Shipwrecks

Aruba is rightly called the wreck-diving capital of the Caribbean. Its warm, clear waters are home to a variety of planes, tugboats, cargo ships, and historic military vessels.

Dive in and float weightlessly through sunlit waters, where colorful reefs have grown around the sunken ships. You’ll encounter parrotfish, damselfish, queen angelfish, and other vibrant marine life, making this an unforgettable underwater adventure.

3. Sunset at the California Lighthouse

The California Lighthouse was named after a sunken ship that inspired its construction. Rising 55 meters above the shore, it offers 360-degree views of the Caribbean Sea and surrounding landscapes.

The best time to visit is at sunset, when the sun casts a warm red glow over the rocky coastline. It’s a magical moment that makes the climb absolutely worth it.

4. Kayak Tour at Mangel Halto

Kayaking at Mangel Halto feels like gliding through a secret passageway in nature. Calm, shallow waters wind through lush mangroves, with sunlight dancing through the tangle of roots and tiny fish darting beneath your kayak. Coastal birds keep watch overhead, adding to the serene yet vibrant atmosphere.

Mangroves are more than just scenic—they protect shorelines from erosion, filter water, and provide nursery grounds for countless marine species. Kayaking here isn’t just relaxing; it’s a chance to connect with one of Aruba’s most unique coastal ecosystems.
