ODEA President Highlights Emotional Demands of Nursing

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – During a recent interview on Noticiacla LIVE with Tito Laclé, ODEA President Sharlyn Farro stated that nursing is not a profession suited for everyone, emphasizing that it requires significant mental and emotional strength. She explained that nurses confront emotionally intense situations daily and must learn to manage pressure, sadness, and trauma while providing patient care.

Farro discussed the necessity of separating personal life from professional duties. “You learn that when you enter work, you leave your house problems at home, and when you leave work, you leave work at work,” she said. However, she noted that reality is not always simple, as some experiences leave a profound impact on a person.

The President of ODEA highlighted the varying nature of nursing cases, ranging from the joy of a birth to the difficulty of witnessing a person’s final moments. While nurses receive theoretical and practical training to acquire tools for handling stress, Farro asserted that no training can fully prepare someone for every emotional reality. She concluded that nursing demands not only medical knowledge but also humanity and resilience.
