ORANJESTAD (AAN) – More Than 100 Tons of Waste Collected During Aruba Cleanup as the island’s National Day to Care for Aruba exceeded expectations, with volunteers collecting more than 100 tons of waste within just a few hours of the nationwide environmental campaign.
The government described the cleanup effort as a major success, highlighting the strong participation of residents, businesses, organizations, and public agencies working together to make Aruba cleaner.
Collection Target Surpassed
Within the first two hours of the campaign, nearly 43 tons of waste had already been collected.
By 11:00 a.m., the total had increased to 74.04 tons, and by 12:00 p.m., volunteers had surpassed the campaign’s goal, collecting 101.2 tons of waste.
Officials said the total represented more than 61 fully loaded waste containers, demonstrating the scale of community participation throughout the island.
Collection Points Across Aruba
A total of 26 collection locations were established across Aruba for residents to dispose of waste during the campaign.
Many of the containers filled quickly, requiring collection crews to continuously remove full containers, empty them, and return them to service so residents could continue disposing of waste.
Government officials also reminded participants to separate waste properly before disposal.
Designated containers were available for:
- Green waste, including branches and leaves
- Wood and pallets
- Cardboard
- Tires
- Metal
- Construction debris such as concrete and tiles
Officials noted that asbestos was not permitted in any of the collection containers.
Additional Disposal Locations
Residents were also able to deliver waste directly to several approved disposal facilities, including:
- Barcadera Waste Facility
- San Nicolas Water Tower collection site
- Harbor Arena collection area, near the former Bushiri Hotel entrance
Community-Wide Collaboration
Several government agencies, organizations, and companies supported both the organization and promotion of the cleanup campaign.
Among those contributing were SETAR, Aruba Ports Authority, WEB Aruba, Post Aruba, and CEDE Aruba.
Local media organizations also deployed reporting teams throughout the day to provide updates and encourage public participation.
