ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba’s AVP-Futuro government delegation recently met with members of the Dutch Senate’s Kingdom Relations Committee in The Hague to discuss economic development, social welfare, and cooperation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Prime Minister Mike Eman attended the meeting together with Vice Prime Minister Gerlien Croes and Minister Plenipotentiary Mildred Schwengle.
During the discussions, the Aruba delegation highlighted Aruba’s economic growth, strong tourism sector, balanced budget, and stable financial position.
However, Prime Minister Eman stressed that economic growth does not always translate into improved quality of life for all residents, especially those living below Aruba’s “bestaansminimum” standard.
The delegation emphasized government efforts to improve social conditions through pension increases, income support measures, and national discussions regarding raising the minimum wage in Aruba.
According to Eman, the government aims to connect the minimum wage more closely with the island’s minimum living standard to assist residents struggling financially.
The meeting also addressed the importance of strengthening cooperation within the Kingdom, particularly amid regional geopolitical tensions involving Venezuela.
Government officials stated that Aruba continues seeking stronger partnerships and mutual understanding with the Netherlands while promoting economic and social stability.
