MEP Faction Criticizes AVP-Futuro Government for Lack of Transparency

On Monday morning, the Parliament of Aruba continued a meeting requested by the MEP faction more than seven months ago. The purpose of this request was to obtain more information from the Government about its ongoing negotiations with the Netherlands.

The MEP faction expressed deep disappointment when, on August 29, the Government announced that it had already reached an agreement with the Netherlands — an agreement that had been approved by the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom — without first consulting Parliament.

According to the MEP, this move showed a lack of respect not only for Parliament, the highest legislative body, but also for the citizens of Aruba who deserved transparency and participation in such an important national decision. The faction emphasized that a Kingdom Law of this kind offers no tangible benefit to the country.

Even more concerning, MEP noted, was that during the parliamentary session, none of the ministers provided a response or clarification. The faction accused the AVP-Futuro Government of acting “like a thief in the night,” taking crucial decisions for the nation without informing anyone.

The MEP concluded that Aruba has never before seen a government so lacking in transparency, urging citizens to question who is truly leading the country and what else may be hidden from them.
