On Tuesday morning, Minister Mervin Wyatt-Ras, responsible for Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care, and Addiction Management, issued a response to statements made by Mr. Dhr. Jayburtt Dijkhoff.
According to the Minister, Dijkhoff has been prohibited from entering her office following accusations related to social media posts he published on Facebook. In these posts, he promoted his services to the community, offering consultations and presenting himself as an intermediary to defend individual and community rights, while also listing the fees for his services.
Wyatt-Ras stressed that such advertisements are not appropriate for someone in Dijkhoff’s position as head of the Institute of Quality, an entity established by law to safeguard the quality of care in Aruba. She emphasized that the institute carries a prestigious and exemplary role, which cannot be compromised by personal promotion of services.
The Minister confirmed that Dijkhoff had submitted a request to the Ministry to conduct this type of work, but she referred the matter to the Bureau of Integrity for further advice. As a result, no formal approval has been given. Despite this, Dijkhoff went on to publicly announce his services through Facebook.
Wyatt-Ras further explained that, following the situation, she received advice from the Department of Human Resources (DRH) not to allow the request. Subsequently, Dijkhoff submitted a letter of resignation, which is not yet official.
She concluded by reaffirming that the Ministry of Public Health will continue addressing health-related issues with seriousness, integrity, and transparency, always in accordance with the law and through official channels.
