ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Dr. Jayburtt Dijkhoff, director of Fundacion SIKI, presented an analysis of the HOFA framework during a session organized by the Federation of Trade Unions of Aruba (FTA).
Speaking in an interview following the presentation, Dijkhoff said he shared facts, reports and supporting documents related to HOFA, arguing that Aruba has already made progress in reducing its national debt without the framework.
He also raised concerns about the country’s financial management, stating that reports indicate Aruba has sufficient resources to invest but lacks adequate planning and local oversight to ensure spending is directed toward national priorities.
Dijkhoff further questioned the constitutional validity of HOFA, referring to opinions that suggest the framework may conflict with Aruba’s Constitution. He argued that if such concerns are valid, the issue should be decided through public consultation, such as a referendum or public vote.
During the meeting, representatives of Aruba’s trade unions discussed possible alternatives and emphasized the importance of identifying solutions they believe best serve the interests of the Aruban people.
