Hugo Themen has claimed the gold medal for Aruba at the Pan American Master-South Central American and Caribbean Championship. The international event took place in San Salvador, El Salvador, from May 27 to May 31, 2026. The championship saw participation from more than 240 athletes representing 22 countries across the Pan American and South-Central American and Caribbean regions.
Competing in the 65 to 69 age group, Themen faced off against 13 other athletes in his category. He achieved a 40kg lift in the snatch and 52kg in the clean & jerk, culminating in a combined total of 92kg. This performance secured the gold medal for the Aruban delegation.
At the conclusion of the master championship, Themen received a plaque of recognition for his career as a master athlete and his leadership in sports at both national and international levels. The award was presented by Dr. Pedro Ruales, President of the South-Central American and Caribbean Olympic Weightlifting Master Federation. The Aruba Amateur Weightlifting Association has extended its congratulations to Themen for his accomplishment.
