ORANJESTAD, Aruba — The Eagle Beach Beautification is preparing to enter its final phase, with government officials announcing plans for new parking facilities, public toilets, pedestrian areas and measures to prevent vehicles from driving or parking on the beach’s white sand.

Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labour Wendrick Cicilia announced the project together with Infrastructure Minister René “Baba” Herdé and technical experts from Aruba’s Department of Public Works, known as DOW.

Before construction can begin, the government will launch a public tender process for the work.

The planned investment is estimated at approximately Afl. 5 million and forms part of wider efforts to protect Aruba’s natural resources while improving one of the island’s most important tourism areas.

Final Improvement Phase Planned

Cicilia said government representatives and DOW specialists met to review the work required at Eagle Beach and identify the area’s most important infrastructure needs.

According to the minister, Aruba’s modern and attractive public infrastructure helps distinguish the island from competing tourism destinations.

He said properly planned facilities can create greater order while improving the experience for residents and visitors.

The final phase of the Eagle Beach Upgrade is expected to combine visual improvements with practical measures designed to protect the beach.

Turtle Wall to Protect White Sand

One of the project’s main features will be the construction of a protective structure described as a “Turtle Wall.”

The wall is intended to prevent cars and other motor vehicles from entering or parking on the white sand.

Officials said vehicles parked directly on the beach can create inconvenience and damage one of Aruba’s most valuable natural and economic resources.

Aruba’s white-sand beaches and clear waters are central to the island’s international tourism reputation and require continued protection and maintenance.

The project will also provide designated parking spaces so motorists can access the area without driving onto the beach.

Toilets and Pedestrian Areas Included

Plans for the Eagle Beach Upgrade also include public toilet facilities and improved areas for pedestrians.

DOW specialists mapped and designed the proposed improvements after examining parking requirements, pedestrian movement and measures needed to protect the shoreline.

The design is intended to create a more organized environment while maintaining access to the beach for both residents and tourists.

Government officials said infrastructure improvements must be functional, attractive and compatible with the surrounding natural environment.

Natural Resources Support Aruba’s Economy

Herdé said Aruba’s natural environment is one of the main reasons visitors choose the island as a destination.

He emphasized that beaches and other natural attractions support Aruba’s economy and must therefore be protected, maintained and improved.

Herdé expressed support for the project presented by Cicilia and said the government must ensure that newly created public infrastructure receives proper long-term maintenance.

The project forms part of the AVP–FUTURO Cabinet’s effort to strengthen infrastructure that supports Aruba’s tourism industry and wider economy.

Maintenance and Cleanup Emphasized

Government officials said construction alone will not be sufficient to preserve the improved area.

Regular maintenance, cleaning and responsible public use will also be necessary to keep Eagle Beach in good condition.

The announcement was connected to the government’s broader Ban Cuida Aruba cleanup initiative, led by Prime Minister Mike Eman.

The campaign encourages residents, organizations and businesses to help keep public areas across the island clean.

Once the tender process is completed, the final phase of the Eagle Beach Upgrade is expected to move closer to construction.

Officials said the investment will help protect Aruba’s white sand, organize parking and pedestrian access, improve visitor facilities and preserve Eagle Beach as an important natural and tourism asset.
